Quotes and phrases about actions and behavior. Life is better now than in the past

Quotes and phrases about actions and behavior. Life is better now than in the past

My mother taught me not to give unnecessary advice and not to try to help someone until the person asks for it. It always seemed to me that she was doing it out of spite. But, as I grew up, I realized that my mother was right after all. And yes, she is one of the kindest and most heartfelt people I have ever known.

Society says we need to help people. I agree with that. It is believed that we should unconditionally strive to help others, even when they do not expect it. No, everything is right here, sudden manifestations of kindness can sometimes change your life. However, there are two sides to the coin. And you should know how such philanthropy can turn out.

Of course, not everything is so sad, but it’s not all rosy either. And in bad there is good, and in good there is bad. While helping people isn't the worst idea, it's also not the best. There are three cases where I personally would be inclined to refuse help, and I strongly recommend that you do the same.

Don't help people who don't deserve your help

It's not that simple. We've been taught all our lives that we need to help others, but now forget about it.

When you grow up, you will understand that you only have two hands: one for helping yourself, the other for helping others.

Sam Levenson

Aspiring startupers often ask me for advice. I know very well how difficult it is to launch a startup, I went through it myself. And yet, I stopped sharing my experience and knowledge for no reason. Once upon a time, I was often invited for a cup of coffee just to “ask a couple of questions.” If you have several million dollars in your bank account from investors, don't even try to pick my brain without due compensation for it. Especially if you didn't even bother to pay for my tea.

These guys don't understand that I have a family to feed, bills to pay, urgent matters to deal with on time. They do not realize that I will have to somehow compensate for the time spent talking with them by sitting at work until late at night. Since they don’t value my time, then I’m not going to waste it on them.

If people don't care about you, you don't have to help them. They simply don't deserve it.

Now I'm just saying how much an hour of my time is worth. Harsh, yes, but life has become simpler, and I am happier. People take me much more seriously. If my services seem too expensive to someone, I offer other ways to compensate for the time spent.

Rule 1: Never offer anything for free.

Rule 2. Never forget rule 1.

The next time someone asks you to, say, speak at a conference for free, don’t agree until you get the best deal possible. If there is no chance of getting a normal fee, ask for a free stand and time to talk about your business, or at least free tickets to the conference. All this will show the seriousness of the organizers’ intentions and how much they need your presence.

People will always try to exploit you if you let them. You don't have time to help everyone. Support only those who truly deserve it.

Remember, the first person you have to help is yourself. It's simple: if helping others doesn't bring you joy, stop doing it. Sometimes you have to be selfish and put yourself first. You can safely ignore society’s opinion on this matter.

Don't help people who don't appreciate your help.

My biggest weakness is that I really like helping. I support people whether they asked for it or not. This approach can sometimes backfire in the most unexpected ways.

One of my clients was doing very badly. My team and I spent several days studying the trending data and understanding what the problem was. This was not part of our assignment, so it was not included in the count, we were just sincerely concerned about the client’s success. My team discovered several serious problems with its business model and strategy. We told him about it, and he fired us.

We did work beyond our responsibilities simply out of empathy. We told the client things that he did not want to hear from us. We lost a client because we were trying to help. Finally, now he hates us simply because we voiced our professional opinion.

A surefire way to turn a friend into a fierce enemy is to tell him what he doesn't want to hear.

When I offer my help, I sincerely want to help. But often people are simply not ready to accept my support. This is fine. Change takes time, and many people do not want to change anything. Don't give advice to those who are not ready to listen to it. Sooner or later, these guys will express everything they think about your “didn’t work” advice.

I stopped helping people who don't want it. Minimum drama, maximum time for yourself.

Don't help if you can't do it well

This is the most important thing. Offering support when you are really not ready to provide it is a no-no. NO. I did this several times, I still regret it.

One day my father and mother were going abroad and asked me to look after their house. I had no idea how to water flowers. I overwatered some and over-dried some. When the parents returned a month later, all their plants had already died. If I hadn’t offered my help, someone knowledgeable about this would have been found, and my dad’s precious flowers would have been alive to this day. My parents, by the way, forbade me from even touching plants with my finger in the future.

If you want to help without the skills or time, your help will be of no use.

It's like learning to draw from a blind person. You're denying people the opportunity to find someone else who can do a better job. As you can see, kindness can cause harm. The easiest way to ruin a relationship is to offer support that you cannot provide.

Finally, everything can be good or bad. It is important for us to find a balance between these extremes. Evaluate everything carefully before lending a helping hand. If you don't do this, you'll be wasting your time and money, and you'll also jeopardize important relationships, personal or professional.

A random act of kindness can make or break someone's life. If you help the wrong people, you will miss the chance to support people who really deserve it. Think before you help.

Proverbs and sayings - it seems like something from deep childhood, from a colorful reading textbook for elementary school. And, at the same time, they remind you of themselves every day, even if no one says them. Because they are life itself, its reflection. If you want, “formulas” of life that explain: if you do this, it will happen like this, but this happened for some reason... After all, proverbs contain folk wisdom. The experience of generations, independent of the historical era, fashion, political and economic situation. The only thing this experience depends on is time, which enriches and fills it.

What is the difference between a proverb and a saying?

Proverbs can be called a storehouse of experience and wisdom in their purest form. This is a short saying, instructive in spirit and having a complete meaning. For example: “you can’t catch a fish out of a pond without difficulty.”

A saying is something else. Rather, it is simply a stable combination expressing some thought, concept instead of some word, or denoting a frequently repeated, recognizable phenomenon: “like two peas in a pod,” “out of the blue,” “neither thought nor guessed, I can’t describe it with a pen”...

This is how it was originally, this is how the most ancient proverbs and sayings appeared. After all, there were times when even books were a huge rarity, and all a person had was his own mind and speech.

Then, when literature, the press, even television spread, the storehouse of wisdom began to be replenished with “author’s” proverbs and sayings - catchphrases of heroes of favorite films, well-aimed phrases in the texts of books... But the meaning of proverbs and sayings in our lives remained the same: a hint at a crossroads, consolation in trouble, a reminder of what should not be forgotten...

While most people feel comfortable within their beliefs, there are some who are interested in exploring the true nature of things. These are the people who have discovered the power of deep thinking, driven by curiosity with an almost unlimited desire to know the truth.

Thinking deeply will help you broaden your perspective and see the big picture and can enrich your life.

Here are some deep thought-provoking questions to ask yourself:

1. What lies beyond the observable Universe?

We know that our solar system is part of a huge galaxy. We also know that there are approximately 100 to 200 billion galaxies in the “close proximity” of Earth. This is what scientists call the observable universe.

But what lies beyond what is observable?

There are even more galaxies and these galaxies go on forever? Are these galaxies part of one universe, or are they part of many other universes? In this regard, the question arises: is our Universe all that there is or do we live in?
Is the universe/multiverse just incredibly big or is it infinite?

2. What happened before the big bang?

The big bang theory describes how the universe came into being. This is a model that seeks to understand how the universe expands rapidly from a high-density state.

For scientists, the big bang marks the beginning of everything. But what happened before the big bang? Nothing? What caused the singularity - that is, the birth of the Universe?

3. Are there more than three dimensions?

The question of why we live in a Universe with three visible dimensions is a thought-provoking question in itself. However, it also raises the possibility that there are more than three dimensions.

Daily life shows us that we clearly live in a world with three dimensions. Height, depth and width influence everything we do. But is there something more than what we see?

The Theory of Everything suggests that there may be more dimensions—much more. Interestingly enough, when string theory is applied to the nine spatial dimensions, everything starts to vibrate. All mathematical theories assume that the fabric of the universe will fall apart without these nine or more dimensions.

4. Is your perception of reality similar to someone else’s experience of reality?

Of course, we all live completely different lives. We all grew up in completely different environments and have different opinions about almost everything.

But what's really interesting is the question: do we all perceive reality in the same way?

For example, due to various differences in our brains, each of us perceives colors differently. Of course, we all know what a red or yellow T-shirt looks like. But does everyone perceive this particular color the same way? Hardly.

At the same time, everything we experience in life is not interpreted objectively. Instead, the events of the world are always subjectively interpreted by our brain. Based on our attitudes, beliefs, and the culture in which we grew up, we may perceive such experiences very differently.

5. How did life arise and evolve on Earth?

Today, science is trying to explain how life developed on planet Earth. Scientists have a good understanding of human evolution, but how life itself arose remains one of the greatest mysteries.

If you've ever heard of evolution, you'll know that the earth was formed through frequent collisions with other celestial bodies about 4.5 billion years ago. Back then it was a molten and highly toxic planet. Her environment was so toxic that she simply could not support any life. But how is it possible that life could arise from nothing? What caused the initial development of life?

Scientists know approximately when life began, but they cannot yet answer the question of how life began. The origin of life remains a largely unknown fact. There are certain hypotheses, but there is no clear answer.

6. Is there life after death?

The question of whether there is life after death is perhaps the greatest mystery of all. Although we all have certain opinions about the concept of death, no one knows for sure. Some people firmly believe in an afterlife, while others are equally convinced that there is nothing after death at all. We may not know until we go through this.

7. What is the nature of reality?

Some of the greatest minds have thought and are thinking deeply about the nature of reality. This is a supreme philosophical question that cannot be answered so easily. For centuries, men and women have tried to understand life, consciousness and reality. But only a few have found convincing answers.

Is life really just a physical manifestation of matter and energy? Or is reality entirely a psychic manifestation?

If life is completely physical, it can only be investigated empirically - by the scientific method. However, if there are also psychic aspects of reality, introspection can be another way of research.

8. Why do the Sun and Moon appear to be the same size?

We know that the Sun is much larger than the Moon. However, when viewed from Earth, the Sun and Moon appear to be about the same size.

The reason for this is that the Sun is about 400 times larger than the Moon, but at the same time about 400 times farther away. As a consequence, the Sun appears to be the same size as the Moon.

But isn't it a strange coincidence that the Sun is 400 times larger and 400 times farther away? Is this just a coincidence or a suggestive question?

9. Is there life in other galaxies?

For most scientists, the question is not “if,” but rather “where.” What's even more interesting is thinking about what kind of life there might be.

Do other organisms, such as microbes and bacteria, exist on planets in distant galaxies? And is it possible that there is also intelligent life there? What would these intelligent beings from distant galaxies look like?

10. Do you shape your own destiny?

Another interesting question to think about is the topic of fate. Do you think that you are in control of your destiny or do you believe that your future is already formed and you are simply moving along the path outlined by someone or something?

This is a thought-provoking question about free will and the power to shape one's destiny.

11. Do people get better through generations?

If we look at human evolution, we will see that there has been continuous progress over the past centuries. Of course there have been ups and downs, but there is no denying that there have been significant improvements.

In this technological age, however, it is interesting to ponder whether people really get better with each generation? This question is not so much aimed at scientific and technological progress. It focuses more on human qualities and behavior. Have we really evolved over the decades? Were our ancestors morally and intellectually less gifted than us?

12. Has human morality been studied?

Where does morality come from? Is this what we absorb from our families, friends and teachers? Or is it something innate that lies within us?

If we absorb morality from our families, then how did it appear one day in our most distant ancestors?

13. Is life better now than in the past?

When we take a superficial look at this issue, we may come to the conclusion that life now is much better than, for example, 50, 200 or even a thousand years ago. However, this judgment is based mainly on achievements in various fields such as technology, healthcare, human rights and ease of living.

But if we subtract these advances from our consideration, is modern life much better than in the past? Are we happier today than people 50 years ago? Are we leading more fulfilling and meaningful lives?

Is it possible that our ancestors were also happy with their lives, despite much harsher conditions?

14. What will the Apocalypse look like?

Scientists keep telling us that the Sun will eventually run out of the hydrogen that powers it. Once this point is reached, he will die. But before that happens, it will begin to expand until it eventually destroys everything left on Earth.

It's actually interesting to think about how the Apocalypse will happen. Will it be 5 billion years from now, or will humans have settled in other galaxies by then? Perhaps the Apocalypse is much closer than many may think. Perhaps people will cause some kind of apocalyptic events or will asteroids contribute to this?

15. Will humans never be able to populate other planets?

With impressive advances in space technology, it seems entirely possible that humans will eventually start living on other planets. We are preparing to send a manned one. Are these plans just the beginning of the Great Colonization of other planets?

This development does not have to be limited to Mars. Perhaps people will be able to identify Earth-like planets in other solar systems and live on these planets as well.

16. Is it possible to imprison an alleged criminal before committing a crime?

Philip K. Dick's sci-fi story “Minority Report” makes you think about working with crime forecasts. If we assume that one day in the future, advanced algorithms or something else entirely can predict crimes, do we have the moral right to imprison people long before they commit a crime?

17. Is there something greater than ourselves?

If you're looking for a truly controversial question, it's whether there is a Higher Power. A large number of living people today feel (at least in some way) something greater than themselves. There are approximately 900 million atheists, and many more people who believe in a higher power.

While non-believers and believers are firmly convinced of their beliefs, it is not so easy or even impossible to find a definitive answer to the question.

Either way, it's equally interesting to ponder: did the world simply emerge from ingenious coincidences, or is there some "supreme power" that set it all in motion?

18. What's worse: failing or not even trying?

Otherwise, this question may sound like this: Is it better to do and regret than to regret what you didn’t do? You may deeply despise failure and fear failure, but is that really worse than not trying at all?

19. Can small changes make a big difference in people's lives?

Often, even small changes can have a huge impact on people's lives, be it economic or political changes, or the discovery of some new drugs. Do you think there is something that can be changed in this world that could benefit hundreds or even thousands of other people?

20. What would you change in this world?

Let's say you were given the power to change just one aspect of this world, what would it be? Would you change anything for yourself and your life? Or did you change something that would help other people lead a better life, even if you didn't gain anything from it?

21. For what reason or for whom would you sacrifice your life?

How much more important is your life to you than the lives of your loved ones - are you ready to sacrifice it for the sake of someone close? Is there a person in your life for whom you would sacrifice your life?

Would you be able to sacrifice your life to save a large group of people, perhaps even strangers to you?

22. What is the most important question in the world?

There are many issues that humanity needs to solve. But what do you think - what is the most important issue that needs to be resolved immediately? What issue is so important that all other issues seem less important?

23. What events in your life influenced you the most?

Who you become is largely shaped by circumstances and life experiences. But think about what the most important events were in your life that influenced your development and shaped you into the person you are today.

24. What is happiness?

Often we strive for something more, in the hope that by adding something new to our lives, we will ultimately become happy. However, it seems that this mouse fuss will never end. At the same time, we strive to fulfill all our desires, without even realizing that they are insatiable to some extent.

Food for thought: what is true happiness and where does it come from? Maybe true happiness can only be found within yourself, or are there external sources that allow you to be happy?

25. Will we one day know the truth about everything?

Recently, more and more new knowledge and achievements have been revealed to us. Humanity today knows much more than humanity of past centuries, however, there are still many mysteries and... But what if one day scientific progress reaches such a level that we can explain any phenomenon in life? Will life become more interesting without secrets? What will we strive for when we know everything?

26. Is it possible to do something wrong if no one knows?

In most cases, what keeps us from doing bad things is the fear of being exposed and punished. But if no one knows about your immoral act, will it be okay to commit it?
And can this act be considered wrong if no one ever finds out about it or judges you? Would you be able to do such an act?

27. Will the future be much better than now?

Life today is already much better than it was 50 years ago when you look at the great strides we have made in areas such as technology and healthcare. If this rapid progress continues into the future, will our descendants be much better off than we are today? What would this life look like?

28. How do you know that your beliefs are true?

You know how quickly beliefs about certain things can change. (People were once convinced that the Earth was flat.) You may have once firmly believed in something, but eventually discovered the true nature of things, and realized that you were mistaken. How can you be so sure that your current beliefs are absolutely correct?

29. What lie do you repeatedly tell yourself?

We all lie to ourselves, day after day. Sometimes, you may be expecting something unrealistic from your life, thereby deceiving yourself. Do you know when you're lying to yourself? And even more interesting, how many lies do you repeatedly tell yourself? Could you stop lying to yourself?

30. Do villains consider themselves heroes?

Most movies portray villains as truly evil. There are only a few films that explore the underlying motives behind the antagonist's behavior.

The same is true for reality. While there are terrible psychopaths who do evil things for no good reason, it is also possible that there are people who do evil because they believe it is right.

This is a thought-provoking question: Are there such evil people who actually think they are heroes?

31. Are you really free?

If you are reading this article, chances are high that you live in a free and open society. But sometimes, people live within a mental prison. They may perceive themselves as free, but they are theirs. At the same time, there may be boundaries that society places on us without imprisoning us in a physical prison.

Can you honestly tell yourself that you are leading a free life? How can you increase your level of personal freedom?

32. Does everyone have a purpose in life?

Does every person have a purpose in life? Is your existence truly meaningful?

Discovering your life's purpose is definitely not an easy task. Are you finding your life's purpose or creating it yourself? How confident are you that you are truly responsible for creating your purpose in life?

33. If no one observes an event, does it happen?

Every day, something happens in the world that no one, not even animals, observes this event. But do these things really happen without anyone noticing?

Will a tree falling in the forest make a noise if no living creature hears it? Will the world exist if for some reason there is not a single observer left?

34. Are you the same person you were 7 or 10 years ago?

Every day, cells in the body die and are replaced by others. This is a normal process that occurs throughout our lives. Interestingly, white blood cells have an incredibly long lifespan - more than a year. This means that all the cells in the body are replaced after just over a year. Other cells live much shorter, some are even replaced within an hour.

Are you still the same person you were a few years ago, even though every cell in your body has been replaced?

35. If you could live forever, what would you do?

Eternal life is quite an interesting concept. But what would you do if you could live forever? Do you think the benefits of not dying outweigh the potential disadvantages?

Is it easy to see all the people you love die over and over again?

36. Will there ever be a time when there will be no war?

If there is one constant in human history, it is war. Will there ever be a time when there will be world peace?

Will humanity across the planet be able to find common ground in their views? Will we stop hunting for other people's territory and resources, given that there are more and more people every year?

37. What makes people evil?

What makes people do evil? Is it something that comes from within? Or could this be a potential influence of external circumstances?

Do you consider yourself evil? Do you wish someone harm in your thoughts? Or are you doing evil without even meaning it?

38. If your resources were unlimited, would you want to live a different life?

Would you change your life a lot if you had access to unlimited resources? Would you become a completely different person?

How would your life change if you had an inexhaustible source of income? What would you do when you're fed up with luxury?

39. If resurrection were real, would you use it?

If you had the opportunity, would you like to bring back a long-dead person whom you miss deeply? What if he is truly in a better world, how selfish is it to bring him back to this world?

40. Is love really your choice?

We are accustomed to thinking that love is something special, characteristic only of people, but scientists explain falling in love as the result of chemical processes in the body. During the mating season, animals produce the same hormones as people in love.

Now think about it - do you love because you want to love, or because nature intended it that way? If love hormones are no longer produced by the body, does this mean that you will not be able to love?

Think about what exactly you are covering for your colleague. There is a difference between supporting your team member and allowing them to be lazy. If you constantly cover for an employee, it can go so far that you don't even notice what you're doing. Here are some signs that you are overly helpful to your lazy coworker:

  • You complete unfinished projects that he is responsible for so that your team doesn't look bad. Of course, he promised to complete the task on time, but as the deadline approached, it became clear that this would not happen.
  • You complete projects because his performance affects your own work. Your colleague is chilling, but his inability or refusal to do quality work has a direct impact on your results.
  • You have to apologize for an employee if he doesn't meet deadlines. Instead of explaining the real reason for the delay and the incompleteness of the project (your colleague did not fulfill his promise), you begin to blame it on the lack of ink in the printer, on hard-to-find information that needs to be retrieved from the archive located on the other side of town. This behavior not only harms you, but the entire team.
  • You realize that you constantly have to push your colleague to complete a task. From keeping track of his work schedule to constant reminders about important meetings. You become his assistant without applying for the job. So what would you think? He really likes it.
  • You constantly deceive your boss by hiding the location of a colleague when you need him for work. Despite the small amount of time it takes to make up a story about his whereabouts (you tell your boss that your colleague is on his way from one office to another when, in fact, he is relaxing at lunch drinking a martini), you are violating the zone of trust. which may soon destroy you. By deceiving your boss, you become just as guilty as your colleague, thereby threatening your career.

Assess how covering for a co-worker affects your work and personal life. If you work extra hours trying to get his and your job done, constantly apologizing for him and lying, then you have already suffered negative consequences by covering for the employee. Some signs that you are harming yourself by covering for a co-worker:

  • Time spent with family is noticeably reduced to a minimum due to the fact that you have to work extra hours for yourself and your colleague. And if you work two jobs, then there is a chance that you simply do not have enough time for your family and personal life.
  • You feel exhausted and anxious. Working without rest is very draining. Plus, if you cheat because of a co-worker, you may feel a constant sense of shame. Due to workload, stress and shame, your health is deteriorating.
  • Your efficiency began to suffer. When you work one job, you have time to come up with creative ideas and brainstorm. But when you have very little time, you only manage to deal with the necessary things.
  • Your boss has started complaining about the quality of the work you are doing. Be alert when your boss tells you: “You were much more attentive than you are now...”, or “I’m surprised you made such a mistake, this has never happened to you before...” and so on. And you know that lower performance is due to rebooting.
  • Understand that stress affects the quality of your work and personal life. Based on an honest assessment of the situation, make the decision to stop covering for your coworker and working for him. It's time for this person to stress out or find something else to spend his time on. There are a few things you should consider before speaking out to your colleague:

    • Why are you doing this employee's work? For some, it simply has to do with perfectionism. It all starts with the fact that your colleague is doing a poor job, but you know that you can easily improve it to a high level. And you do this instead of telling him that this job needs to be redone. This situation begins to repeat itself, but the complexity of the work increases, and your employee gets used to the fact that you finish everything for him. Sounds familiar? If yes, then you need to put your perfectionism aside.
    • Another reason could be a lack of self-confidence, especially if you just joined the team when this started. A lazy co-worker praised your hard work and took advantage of this to overload you with work without you being able to say no. Once constantly agreeing to do a colleague's work has become a chore and you fail to say no, things get much worse. In this case, you need to concentrate on working on your self-confidence.
    • Another reason is fear. If this employee is arrogant and threatens you in front of the entire team or boss, you may be afraid to say no to him. In this case, no matter how difficult it may be, you need to be courageous and explain the situation to your superiors, or to the HR department. If you are being threatened and intimidated, then it is time for your company to take action to address the situation. Don't worry about this employee, he should have thought better about his behavior.
  • From now on, try to speak to the employee directly, but politely. The next time he comes to you with half-done work, expecting you to finish it, point to a chair or invite him into the meeting room and say: “Sit down. We need to talk."

  • Tell him that you have an important conversation with him and you would like him to listen carefully. Don't talk about friendship and such things. This is a formal conversation and you need to discuss the main points as quickly as possible.

    • Explain to your colleague how having to cover for them constantly affects you. Give him some real facts so he understands that you're not just generalizing.
    • Add some complimentary comments to the conversation about a job he is doing well. Use this to prove to your colleague what he is truly capable of and that it would be good for the team if he used his strengths while working.
    • Ask him about the existence of reasons that prevent him from doing work efficiently and on time. Be gentle with him and let him talk about any problems that are preventing him from performing better. Don't agree with his statements, just explain that there are different types of difficult trials.
      • You can suggest that together we find solutions that will allow this employee to become more productive, for example, ask the boss to provide special training courses for him, or move him to a quieter place, and so on. But no need to coddle him, there are certain things that each employee can ask for productivity help for.
    • If your colleague refuses to divulge the reasons that prevent him from working effectively, do not pressure him. Just accept his point of view, but stick to your story about the harm his poor performance is causing you. This will allow you to continue searching for a solution instead of focusing on his personal problems.
    • During a conversation, try not to speak aggressively or rudely. Don't say, “You made me lie to my boss,” or “I had to finish all your work for you.” Instead, make it clear to him that you should not have done this in the first place, and that it is no longer acceptable.
  • Tell him you can no longer cover up for his poor performance and ineptitude. Try not to judge his behavior, but use examples of the harm caused to you to explain the reason for your refusal to do the work for him. You might say, “Because you couldn't keep up with work, I couldn't go to my grandmother's funeral. This should never happen to me again.” Then move on to the discussion.

    • Avoid discussing your co-worker's personal problems, such as problems with your marriage or raising children. Keep his productivity at work separate from his personal life.
    • Make it clear to him that from now on you will not do any of his work for him. This means that if your colleague wants to leave early, any unfinished work will have to be completed the next morning.
  • Refuse to work for your employee in the future. Now you must keep your promises. It might be hard at first because you might have gotten used to it, but if you don't put your foot down, you will be used again.

    • You should stop deceiving your boss when he asks you questions about your colleague. But, instead of turning it in to your boss, answer as if you don’t know where he is and how many clients he has received during the day. For example, say: “Sorry boss, I know the report is due at 5 and it’s already 3, but I really don’t know where it is now. I saw him at 10 am in the break room, so I don’t know if he’s working today or not.”
    • Don't try to do a colleague's work, even if it only takes a few minutes. Having completed his work once, it will lead to the next request, and then everything will begin again (remember how it all began at the very beginning). Stay calm and stand your ground no matter what.
  • Do not pay attention to possible failures in this process, which are likely to happen. This means that you must allow your colleague to fail, even if it affects your work. This is the only way your boss will know about an employee with poor performance. If you work on a creative team and your lazy colleague is responsible for taking notes on ideas, but until now you've been doing it for him to complete projects, let the notes be absent this time. When your boss or client requests it, make sure they find out who was responsible for it.

    • If you find this difficult, try talking to your supervisor alone. Explain to him what is happening, tell him how you allowed such unconstructive behavior to develop within the team, and how you are now trying to correct the problem by distributing responsibilities. Your boss will be made aware of this and may even appreciate that you are being honest and taking responsibility for the situation. If not, your integrity will remain intact.
  • If you have the time and experience, offer to help the employee with what he can't do. Most likely, he covers up his inability or fear with laziness. By offering to help him learn, you acknowledge his value without delving too deeply into his insecurities, and increase his desire to learn.

    • Don't assume that your employee needs your help. Ask him first.
    • You can give him advice and tips if you see fit. Do not overdo it. Be friendly, not bossy. Watch his reaction. Sometimes, it will immediately become clear to you that you have offended him rather than helped him. Be prepared to apologize if you have overstepped your bounds.
    • Send your colleague links to various online resources that can help him understand something. Most often, self-learning is very effective and does not require intervention.
